Documentary about an escaped Russian military man in America: Farewell to Arms, Hello America
Russian officer Konstantin Efremov retired from the army in May 2022 after three months in the war in Ukraine, where he witnessed torture, corruption and looting. He was able to obtain a foreign passport, flew to Mexico in January 2023 and from there reached the United States, where he asked for political asylum. Efremov spent two months in a migration prison in Texas, then, after several months of wandering around America without money or documents, Efremov stopped in Tennessee. He is helped by an Indian family who owns a roadside hotel and allows him to live there. The former military man earns extra money by installing electrical equipment and performing simple construction work. He saves the money he earns for a lawyer needed for legalization in the United States.
Efremov’s story is in Yulia Vishnevetskaya’s film “Farewell to Arms, Hello America” in the documentary project “Signs of Life.”
