You never dreamed of it: a terrible story about female stupidity and miscarriage of justice (6 photos)

The topic of violence is very scary and, unfortunately, widespread. The majority of such criminals are men. And, as a rule, there is more than enough evidence of guilt. But this case is special.

In mid-August 1987, a young woman, whose identity has not yet been revealed, contacted the police and reported rape. The day before, the victim was relaxing in the company of several acquaintances. Waking up in the morning, a 23-year-old woman realized that there was a guy next to her who was trying to force her into intimacy. She began to break free, but her strength turned out to be unequal. The unfortunate woman was dragged into the attic of the house, raped and beaten.

The girl contacted the police. The law enforcement officers had no reason not to accept the statement: the victim had injuries to her head and eyes.

She did not remember the attacker’s face and could not describe him. The victim was taken to the hospital for observation. And on the first night, the girl had a dream about the incident, in which she relived everything that happened and clearly saw the face of the rapist. Her testimony, seen in a dream, became the basis for the materials of the criminal case.

Evidence and excuses

The victim gave the name - Clarence Moses-El - a 31-year-old man who lived in the neighborhood. When arrested, he vehemently denied any involvement in the attack, burglary or rape. The analysis showed the presence of sperm in the woman's vagina, but the sample could not be identified.

However, the victim’s testimony was sufficient to secure a guilty verdict on all counts. A Colorado jury sent Clarence to prison for 48 years.

All attempts to challenge the court decision were unsuccessful.

A ray of light at the end of the tunnel

Among the possible culprits, the woman mentioned another acquaintance of hers, a certain Jackson, who had already served time for similar crimes. The man also lived not far from the victim, and his psychological profile was more consistent with the description of the criminal than Clarence’s personality.

Jackson categorically denied everything. And only in 2012, during his next imprisonment, he himself asked, through a lawyer, to contact Clarence in order to discuss something with him.

What motivated Jackson? Perhaps repentance or some other reasons. But he admitted that he had committed a crime then.

Only in 2015 was the case re-examined. The victim repeated her testimony that she did not see the perpetrator’s face. And I was able to identify him only after seeing him in a dream.

Jackson refused to testify. But an in-depth investigation revealed that the body fluids definitely did not belong to Moses. It was possible to establish and prove that at the specified time he could not have been at the crime scene.

Moses was acquitted on all counts. The man demanded compensation in monetary terms at the rate of 70 thousand dollars for each year spent in prison. And although the former prisoner said that he holds no grudge against the police and hopes that his case will help improve the justice system, no one can return the 28 years of life spent behind bars to Clarence.
