In France, vineyard and winery owners have gone on the offensive.
In France, vineyard and winery owners gathered on a highway near the border and stopped several trucks carrying Spanish wine and grapes. Protesters threw boxes of champagne onto the ground, opened a tank of wine and poured it onto the asphalt.
The protesters went beyond all limits and started a fire on the highway. They set fire to boxes of vegetables and tires.
The reason for the protest was the cheapness of Spanish products entering the market. Because of it, local French farmers and winemakers are suffering heavy losses. The highway was blocked for some time. Police are on the scene.
The protest was organized by Frédéric Rouanet, president of the local winemakers' syndicate. According to him, the protest is part of “an economic war against economic criminals who are abusing bankrupt grape producers,” The Sun reports.
