The love of beauty and money is like a shortcut to the scaffold (5 photos)
It would seem that girls are semi-heavenly creatures that were created by the universe exclusively for love. And enrichment. But such confidence backfired for Victor Clark and resulted in a record-breaking short court hearing.
On one ordinary summer day in 1928, Liverpool was enveloped in a blanket of rain. It seems that these two, Joseph Reginald Victor Clark and Mary Agnes Fontaine, were brought together by fate itself. It turned out that the young man was looking for an apartment, and the girl’s mother was just renting out rooms.
Liverpool
Mary was literally charmed by the courteous guest. True, experts subsequently suggested that he acted not only with innate charm, but also used hypnosis, for which he had good abilities.
Studying in the States did not work out, then several spicy stories happened involving girls from fairly famous families. And Clark, who quarreled with his parents for complete happiness, fled to England.
Profession: lover
Where he began to earn money in a dust-free and even pleasant way - he charmed single women, usually older widows, and very quickly turned from a tenant to a lover. At the same time, looking for the next victim.
Through trial and error, the seducer found the optimal working scheme - he switched to young girls, whom he was almost now ready to marry. And on the eve of the wedding, he borrowed a certain amount from practically his mother-in-law and father-in-law. Not too big, but not small either. In general, pleasant. And then I just got lost. When indignant failed relatives came with claims, the guy, yawning lazily, reported that it was not a loan, but a gift. Wedding. But since they behave this way, there will be no wedding. And with all the claims, those dissatisfied can go to court.
Dangerous Exception
Clark and Mary Fontaine
It is clear that family people were in no hurry to make the matter public. And the debt was forgiven. But this trick didn’t work with Mary’s mother Agnes Fontaine. No, at first everything went according to plan: the woman allowed a charming guy, whom her daughter liked, to live on credit for a couple of months.
But the request for a small loan ran into a blank wall of misunderstanding. Alice was a mature, pragmatic woman. And I found out that he had nothing in common with the wealthy family that Victor constantly referred to. How he has no capital, no profession, and simply travels around the country with vague goals.
When Alice once again asked the guest to pay for their stay, he lost his temper, attacked his would-be mother-in-law and strangled the unfortunate woman with a robe belt.
At that moment Mary entered. The same fate awaited the girl, but she dodged the raised hand with a knife and rushed into the street screaming for help.
Clark fully admitted his guilt - both murder and attempted murder. And he became a defendant in a record-breakingly short trial. The judge was gone for exactly three minutes. Standard questions and the announcement of the verdict took another minute and a half. Clark went to the scaffold. Why didn’t the charming gigolo try to justify himself in court? This question remains unanswered.
