Environmental activists disrupted an esports tournament in London
Climate change fighters ruined the players' equipment and the mood of everyone present.
Environmental activists visited the Tekken 7 tournament, taking place as part of Britain's largest gaming exhibition EGX 2023, and ruined everyone's holiday. Members of the annoying Just Stop Oil movement burst onto the stage where the final match was taking place, smeared and doused the players' monitors with yellow paint and damaged expensive equipment. The tournament organizers had to interrupt the tournament to clean and replace some of the equipment.
As Just Stop Oil later stated, the provocation organized at the eSports site was intended to bring video game fans back to reality, so that they would wake up and begin to fight the real problems in the world - with mining, of course.
"Virtual worlds in video games allow us to escape reality and have exciting adventures. However, we must not forget about the reality that lies beyond the screen. Exposure to hot topics in video games and careless attitude towards the environment can have serious consequences for our planet and all its inhabitants. Let's support the Just Stop Oil initiative and make the world safe for everyone by returning to the exploration and development of the cyber world." - said the organization.
Immediately after their performance, climate activists stood on stage and began shouting slogans. A couple of minutes later, the guards took them out onto the street safe and sound. It’s a pity that players of the fighting game Tekken 7 can only fight well in a video game, gamers joke sadly.
As for the event participants, to put it mildly, they did not appreciate the message from environmental activists addressed to them. Users recalled that the gaming industry is one of the leading fighters against environmental pollution - studios donate millions of dollars to preserve flora and fauna and teach to appreciate nature in their games. The gamers thought (like other people who met Just Stop Oil) that environmental activists, instead of actually doing something useful to save the Earth (at least collecting plastic), were causing provocations and preventing people from living.
