An underwater elevator with windows where you can’t see anything, but they show a movie (6 photos)
From a distance this structure resembles either a gazebo or a bell, or a mushroom growing out of the water. In fact, in front of you - the world's first underwater elevator - with virtually all amenities.
This underwater elevator - Tauchergondel - was installed on the island Usedom, in the resort town of Zinnowitz on the Baltic Sea coast in Germany. It started working in 2006.
Later, three similar “elevators” appeared in three more districts Germany - in Sellin, Grömitz and Zingst. This elevator was developed by a local engineer and architect Andreas Wulff.
The structure is a waterproof 45-ton cabin mounted on a metal pole, the length of which is 10 meters. Cabin powered by two electric motors smoothly slides down and up, going under water to a depth of about 4 meters.
The system is responsible for the access of fresh air into the cabin ventilation, for safety - emergency mechanisms that can the need to return the “elevator” from under the water in a few seconds.
And in case of strong waves the attraction is generally closed to visitors for safety reasons. So if you are going to this attraction, you should pay attention to the weather forecast.
Inside the “bell” there are seats, the number which are designed for 24 people. You can buy "on board" the elevator souvenirs and drinks. There is also a 3D cinema here.
During the excursion dive, which lasts approximately 40 minutes, guests are shown films that talk about tropical seas, and about the biology of the Baltic Sea itself - after all, this is precisely the sea is immersed by the elevator.
This, of course, begs the question - why dive into the waters? Baltic Sea, so that you can watch a movie about it underwater, if the underwater world is here it is, outside the cabin windows?
It's all about visibility: there is a lot of plankton and algae, which makes the water quite cloudy. In addition, the depth here there is a relatively small number of fish and other marine life, on that we would like to admire may simply not come here.
This is, on the one hand, a dubious interactive - but, on the other hand, the underwater elevator is popular.
