There lived in Spain a young doctor, Carlos Sanchez Ortiz de Salazar. And one not very wonderful day he disappeared into the unknown direction, which put relatives and others at a dead end.





The future psychiatrist was born in 1970 in Bilbao. And already from a young age years demonstrated a high level of intelligence: the teenager is fluent spoke several languages, completed his studies without any problems, received a diploma psychiatrist. Carlos had a brilliant career ahead of him. Young by nature the man was an impeccably polite person, but closed and not particularly willingly made contact outside of work. However, not everyone can be extroverts, right?

In 1996, the doctor disappeared. Didn't come to work in December. Not showed up on the next shift. They started looking for him and called his family. It turned out that the man had not had contact with his relatives for a long time. IN de Salazar's apartment was in perfect order, no one's bank accounts touched.

The investigation had no leads. And the search gradually came to a dead end. In 2010, the Spaniard was declared dead.

Tent in the middle of nowhere

In 2015, a group of mushroom pickers in the vicinity of the province Scarlino (Tuscany, Italy) went off the tourist trail in search of rich mushroom place and came across a camp. Quite primitive: the dwelling was a piece of tarpaulin thrown over two tree branches, and on On other trees hung half-rusty cans, in which they were obviously collecting rain water.





A middle-aged man came out to the mushroom pickers and said that he lived here in peace and quiet for 18 years. And it was wonderful... And now, when his hiding place is exposed, he will have to look for a new place.

The man called himself Carlos de Salazar and even allowed take photographs of the presented documents. Talk about the life of a hermit with he didn’t want uninvited guests and asked them to leave makeshift camp.

Double fade



As soon as people reached Scarlino, they immediately turned to the authorities, telling about the meeting with a strange hermit. Those contacted an international organization searching for missing persons. AND a few days later, de Salazar’s relatives - mother, father and sister flew to Italy, hoping to hug their beloved son and brother after so much years of separation.

But the dreams were not destined to come true. By that time the camp had already turned out to be abandoned. And its only inhabitant left it as a memory of just a mountain of garbage. The Italian authorities decided not to continue the search, because Carlos' disappearance was not criminal. The decision to leave society accepted of his own free will.



The relatives returned home, realizing that there was no chance of finding there are no people in the huge forest. Especially if he doesn't want to to be found.

Volunteers promised to periodically comb the forest. And the authorities - look after him unobtrusively. After all, Carlos, in general, did not commit nothing illegal and chose to live alone of his own free will.

Although man is a social being, cases of voluntary hermitism is not that uncommon. And to the relatives of such fugitives, and to everything society as a whole can only accept their choice.
