The tribes in the Omo Valley have their own tradition - ritual deprivation of virginity. This is an ancient custom followed by pagan peoples. Lives in the valley a dozen different tribes that have preserved their traditional way of life and unique culture. True, for most civilized countries, the rites of local seem wild.



So what is this ritual? When the girl turns 12 years old, by the standards of the tribal society, she is already ready to start adult life. A suitable husband is found for her, after the ceremony marriage, accompanied by ritual dances and other traditional actions, the spouses fulfill their duty.



The husband picks up a ritual sacred phallus called "Okuliboko". Before the deprivation of innocence, he speaks the wand, and then performs the ritual by hand.

Previously, everything happened before the eyes of the village, but now you can retire to a hut. The tribe is also developing, so some circumstances are changing. However, in the morning, the husband is still required to present proof: show the sacred phallus to everyone in the village, and he must be red. This indicates that the girl was innocent.
