"American Ferrari": The original Apollo 3500 GT (19 photos)
The Apollo 3500GT is a rare American-Italian GT car from the 1960s, nicknamed the "American Ferrari". 
And the auction house RM Sotheby's will auction the classic 1963 Apollo 3500 GT coupe. This two-door was designed by the company International Motor Car, although the bodies for it were already produced by Italian atelier Carrozzeria Intermeccanica. 
On the market, the model was called nothing more than an "American Ferrari", however such a flattering title did not contribute to success - only 88 such cars. 
Of these, only the first 41 copies were assembled by Apollo, and the assembly of the rest was already done by a third-party company. It was forced step due to lack of funding. 
Interestingly, at the same time, the two-door was very warmly received by the public. It was praised for its reliability and simplicity of design (compared to European counterparts). Plus, for its time, the car pleased with pleasant handling and had a high quality interior trim. 
The Apollo 3500 GT itself was built on a steel frame with suspension from 1961 Buick Special. From him, the coupe also received a 3.5-liter V8. The power of the latter was increased to 230 hp, and in conjunction with it dispatched a four-speed Borg-Warner box. 
Specifically, the second serial copy of the coupe will be put up for auction, which boasts the presence of aluminum body panels. Latest were put on cars only at the very beginning of production. 
From the description of the lot it follows that the car has survived to this day in completely original condition. In the published photos, he looks like well-maintained, although the last time it was restored quite a long time ago.
