Retiree Spent 30 Years Building Huge Model of Herod's Biblical Temple (11 Photos)
Alec Garrard, 80 year old retired farmer from Norfolk, England, spent the last thirty years working on a model of a biblical temple Herod. The result is simply mesmerizing.
Mr. Garrard loved to build models since childhood. As he got older, he thought about creating a really big project.
Because he was always interested in architecture and religion, the pensioner decided to combine his two passions and create one of a kind model of Herod's temple.
Before that, he had seen a couple of models of this temple at biblical exhibitions, but they seemed to him not accurate enough.
Alec knew he could do a better job, and he set to work.
He started work when he was in his 40s. For the first three years he simply studied the Bible temple, and only then began to build a model.
And yes, the model is 100% handmade.
He carved the frames of the temple walls from plywood, burned clay bricks in a kiln and then glued them together and even sculpted and painted 4000 tiny figurines and dressed them up in costumes.
"I've been working on it for decades, but it will never completed, because I constantly find something else to add, ”says Alec.
According to historians, Alec's work is the most exact model of the Second Temple, and this is how it looked before it was destroyed.
