4 December 2022

Scott Dow is an experienced wood carver who works in his studios in northwestern Pennsylvania, USA. One of his most impressive projects to date is a unique bar a stand made from local catalpa. Carved from a single piece tree crocodile rises from the center of the table, as if its body and head protrude out of the water.

Dow took about 100 hours to complete this amazing work. This ambitious project was inspired by the sculpture fish "floating up" from a wooden surface. Although many years of experience Dow told him that he should first practice at the job of the smaller scale, he decided to challenge himself and use this concept immediately in great work. The result was not a piece of furniture, but a real one. piece of art.

On the surface of the bar counter, ripples are even visible in places where the body crocodile rises from the water. Dow managed to convey everything perfectly textures, from smooth glassy water to rough uneven texture crocodile and his teeth. After several layers of varnish, the rack was ready and will soon go to its owner.

Although Dow experienced some difficulties in creating the sculpture, he successfully overcome them. Now that the artist has realized what is really can bring his vision to life, he moved on to work on the next bar counter, this time with a snake.
