What Soviet magazines advised wives to knit for their beloved husbands (11 photos)

22 November 2022

In Soviet times, almost the entire female half of the population knitted: from schoolgirls to deep pensioners.

Before knitting a sweater for her beloved son-in-law, the wife decided Look for inspiration in your old magazine archives. in some moment I heard her burst into laughter. I also wondered what they printed such a funny one there.

I was also drawn into this whole knitting story, and we spent the whole evening sat, leafing through the pages and making fun of the funny models. Although, some things even by modern standards look quite decent.

Here's a really nice sweater. I had a similar student times. True, not knitted, but bought by my mother in department store. But this ski cap is a complete failure.

Although, if you turn up the elastic and put it on like a human, it has place to be. By the way, for some reason the guy in the photo reminds me of Yuri Antonova. And his wife says he doesn't.

Here is also quite a good cardigan for an intelligent man middle-aged. They used to be very popular, and still are. wear similar.

But the photo itself is hilarious. So thoughtful look at the model, such a “laid-back” pose. Although, without this toy rackets would not be so comical.

Well, here my wife and I, of course, laughed heartily. Magazine 81st year, and I personally do not remember that then one of my acquaintances wore similar.

A sweater with folk ornaments can only be worn on carnival festivities. And those cockerel hats make guys look like buffoons.

This photo is from the same magazine for the 81st year as the previous one. Well quite another matter. Quite down to earth, practical thing. Truth, melange yarn and contrasting trim is more of a feminine theme, as to me. It seems to me that the male version should be more strict, plain.

The men's pullover "Kolchuga" looks, of course, original, but, I don't think it's practical at all. As if Valery's concert outfit Leontiev or the costume of an actor of the Youth Theater. And, most importantly, the lady in the photo is dressed quite decent, fashionable. Why did they decide to dress the man in "knightly armor, I don't know.

And my grandfather had about the same vest with pockets. Only dark grey. And then it was inherited by my father. By the way, this vest is still intact and practically unharmed, although it is used already purely in the country.

This is probably my favorite photo from the entire collection. so serious and You need to be able to look piercingly into the camera. As if in the soul peeks.

And the sweater itself, in principle, is interesting. The youth is now loves. No one will be surprised to see a guy of about 25 in a sweater with deer, Mickey Mouse or such a bear. But I wouldn't be in such a house came out neither now nor in the 80s.

I know this pullover very well. This was knitted for me by my mother and I wore it to college. That's exactly the same - with a shirt (only without tie). But certainly not blue. I wouldn't wear blue. I had light grey.

And such cardigans were worn by many men. For example, our strength teacher. I don't remember him ever coming to couples in something else. Although, to be honest, I deliberately I don't really like "intelligent" models.

Do you remember the knitted fashion of the USSR? Do you think it is relevant today?
