People thought they were saving a kitten, but in fact it was a completely different animal (3 photos)

The humane society "Cat Shelter Limburg" is located in Belgium and rescues stray cats. Last week, a man called them and said that he had found a small black kitten and wanted volunteers to take him in.

Volunteer Martina Vos went to pick up the kitten. It was an amazing mission she would not soon forget.

She arrived at the address in a private house, took the cub, also thinking that it was a kitten, and then found out where it was found. Searches in that place for the cub's mother or other kittens did not yield any results, so the baby was recognized as an orphan.

When Martina was about to take the kitten to the shelter, she first suspected something was wrong.

“When I picked him up, it seemed to me that he was too large for a kitten. Then I took a closer look at his face and it also seemed to me not at all like a cat.”

Martina took the baby to the veterinarian, also hoping to find out from him what animal this cub belongs to. But the vet couldn’t give her an answer either. He seemed to be confused.

“The only answer he gave me was that the cub was female,” says Martina Vos.

Then Martina had the idea to seek advice from a wildlife center and there the mystery was finally resolved.

"They identified the baby as a fox cub."

It turned out that very small fox cubs often have dark-colored fur and very small ears, which may slightly resemble the appearance of a kitten.

The discovery made Martina nervous.

“Firstly, I’m also interested in preserving local wild animals. Secondly, my surname “Vos” translates as “fox” from Dutch. And all my life I’ve had a dream of meeting a fox, and now I’m holding a little fox in my arms and she was saved from death. It's like a waking dream."

The little fox was transferred to a British wild animal shelter and will stay there until he grows up and becomes independent. Then he will be released into the wild.

“As a volunteer for the Humane Society, I am committed to helping endangered animals, especially something as small and defenseless as kittens. Even if the animal was not a kitten, it still made me feel good that now this little one has a chance to live "One day this fox will be back in her natural habitat and she will have many little foxes," says Martina Vos
