Tiny kitten found on the street is not what he seemed (10 photos)
He was born just a few hours ago and was lying alone near the house of people who happened to notice him.
Just by looking out the window, one of the family saw this little drop of life, lonely and almost doomed. By the way, I should have noticed such a little thing.
When the baby was lifted from the ground, it seemed to people that the kitten was not an ordinary domestic cat. They called a rescue organization.
Rescuers from Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand (WFFT) arrived and took the baby away. It turned out that the kitten belonged to an endangered species: a rare “fishing cat,” a wild cat that lives in Southeast Asia.
“We were surprised why the kitten was without a mother,” WFFT said. “He was clearly born a few hours ago.”
It turned out that the family who found the kitten knew the cat. “The kitten's mother was a rescue animal that they found in a rice field near the house a few years ago. They raised a cat and then released it into the wild.”
A cat raised in a family will sometimes return to the house. And rescuers believe that she decided to give birth to the babies near her home. Most likely, she then dragged the born kittens to another place.
“While moving the kittens, she lost sight of one,” WFFT said.
The family was waiting for the cat to return for the kitten, but most likely she forgot about it.
The kitten was found “cold and hungry” and was taken to WFFT Hospital. The vet held the baby on his chest to keep him warm.
They named him Simba.
It is very important that Simba survives (for his own benefit and for the benefit of his species).
Due to habitat destruction, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has listed the fishing cat as an endangered species.
“The fishing cat is critically endangered in Southeast Asia,” WFFT said.
But Simba is a little fighter.
“He is now in a special incubator, which creates the ideal environment for him,” WFFT said.
“While it is still very small, we will have to wait to see what happens next.”
Everything should be fine with him - Simba is a fighter, and people will not let him go to waste. They will help him grow up.
Grow healthy, Simba!
