Tests of the Zaporozhye Thumbelina: Why a tiny orphan mother lives in a maternity hospital

18 November 2016

On November 11, at the Zaporozhye Perinatal Center, a boy was born by caesarean section, whose mother received the attention of doctors from the first weeks of pregnancy. And this is not surprising, because the young mother Lilya Moiseeva is a real baby: her height is only 128 cm, her weight is 42 kg. According to doctors, such little inches have never been given birth in Zaporozhye. However, despite the fears of doctors, Lily’s child was born healthy, with a weight of 2.63 kg and a height of 48 cm. And everything would have been fine, only, as the correspondent of the Depo.Zaporozhye portal found out, the life story of the Zaporozhye little inch is very tragic. The girl is an orphan, and now a single mother; she is not allowed into the room allocated by the state. There is simply nowhere for a young mother to go with a child in her arms.

Eternal housing problem

Lily's parents were deprived of parental rights when the girl was 11 years old. She studied at a boarding school in Molochansk. Then I went to study at the Melitopol vocational school to become a seamstress. After graduation, in 2014, Lilya, as an orphan, was issued a warrant by the state for a room in a three-room apartment on Zadneprovskaya Street, 11, in the Khortitsky district of Zaporozhye.

“I immediately went to my room with a warrant, but they didn’t even let me into the apartment. A family lives there, they took my room. I wrote a statement to the police, but no one even went to the apartment to look and didn’t want to help me,” recalls young woman.

As it turned out, an ordinary family had been living in a three-room apartment for a long time. They did not privatize their housing, so each family member owned specific meters of living space. After the death of my grandparents, one of the rooms was returned to the state. The warrant for this room was issued to the orphan Lila.

Without any support and the opportunity to get into her home, the girl was forced to leave Zaporozhye. Fortunately, she was sheltered by a large family. Lilya did not sit idle, helped with the housework and got a job at a garment factory.

At the beginning of 2016, the girl moved to Zaporozhye and lived with her friend.

The smallest mother of Zaporozhye

Soon Lilya found out that she was pregnant. She went to the 9th city hospital in Zaporozhye. Considering the characteristics of the woman’s physical condition, the pregnancy could have some complications, so the doctors turned to colleagues from the perinatal center for help.

“She really wanted to give birth to a child, despite life complications and physical condition. Therefore, we decided that she should be constantly under the supervision of doctors, obstetricians and gynecologists. Our professional duty was to leave Lilya in the perinatal center so that we could constantly monitor her condition and the condition of the child,” said the chief doctor of the Zaporozhye regional perinatal center Alexander Kirilyuk.

So, from the 13th week of pregnancy, Lilya actually lived in the center. During pregnancy, some complications arose from time to time, but thanks to the professionalism of the doctors, everything went well. According to Kirilyuk, in his 35 years of work experience, this is the first time that a woman in labor has such a short stature.

After the 37th week of pregnancy, doctors were convinced that the baby was full-term, the lungs were mature, and it was already possible to perform a caesarean section. Lilya chose November 11 as her due date.

The operation went quickly and without complications. Today, neither the mother nor the child has any medical or obstetric problems. The newborn boy has normal weight and height, without any defects. After giving birth, the child is with Lilya all the time.

“I named my son Ruslan. I am very happy that I had a child, I feel like a mother from the first day of his birth. Ruslan has not yet shown a masculine character. He behaves calmly, eats well, does not wake up at night,” says Lilya .

Therefore, the girl is coping well with the child, and so far he has not caused any trouble.

True, in order to put or remove Ruslanchik from the cradle, Lila has to stand on a stool.

The young mother doesn’t like to talk about the child’s father – she immediately starts crying. He only says that they separated a long time ago, the man does not get in touch and does not even know that he had a son.

Hope for a good future

Doctors jokingly call Lilya “the daughter of the perinatal center.” They take care of it, provide everything necessary. Now neither mother nor child needs anything. A friend with whom she studied together also comes to see Lila. However, the girl has no one else. She has nowhere to go. Therefore, the young mother is very grateful that she is allowed to live in the maternity hospital, as well as for the care, help and attention of the doctors.

The head doctor of the center assures that Lilya and the child will live with them until the issue of her housing is resolved.

“Legally, we cannot keep her in the center, but, purely humanly, now the question does not even arise to discharge Lilya. We are all people, we understand perfectly well that the girl has a very difficult life situation. Until all the dots are settled above the “i”, Lilya and the child will stay with us,” says Kirilyuk.

When Lilya settled in the perinatal center, little by little they began to sort out the issue of her housing. The chief doctor reported the situation to social protection services and the police. Lilya again wrote a statement to law enforcement agencies. Now the case has already reached the court. The state provided a lawyer for the defense. True, the residents of the apartment where Lilya de jure has a room, in turn, filed a counterclaim. They are trying to ensure that the room becomes their property. They assure that the girl was not kicked out, she climbed somewhere herself. Therefore, now they want to prove in court that Lilya did not appear in the apartment for more than six months without good reason, which means she should be deprived of the right to this living space. It is still very early to say how everything will turn out in court and how it will end.

“Now I have nowhere to go with a small child in my arms. Despite the fact that at the center they treat me well and take care of me, I really want to live at home, take care of my son, so that it is still a home environment,” says Lilya.
