Looking through the Soviet “Book of Tasty and Healthy Food”, one can be convinced that food styling was well developed during the USSR. In the USSR they knew how to portray even food that was tasteless, by today’s standards, as a delicacy.
The most popular edition, “Books on Tasty and Healthy Food,” from which the illustrations of this material are taken, was published in 1954 with a circulation of 500,000.
Like many things in the USSR, the book was probably published for a reason, but with an underlying motive - to prove to Soviet citizens, who were slowly recovering from the death of Stalin, that after Joseph Vissarionovich it would be no worse. In fact, this is the subject of an epigraph taken from Stalin’s statements: “The characteristic feature of our revolution is that it gave the people not only freedom, but also material benefits, but also the opportunity for a prosperous and cultural life.”
But politics is politics, and the book was in great demand and really helped our grandmothers and mothers cope with the housework.
