"I found this thing in my basement. It beeped every 20 seconds until I pulled out the battery. What is it?"
This is a sensor that signals flooding. Just put a new battery in it.
"It looks like a bidet, but it's bigger. It's in a public restroom. It has metal rods that can go up and down. There's a hot water tap on top. What is that?"
This is a kind of sink for cleaning. The bucket is placed on the grate, filled with water and detergent. After washing the floors, the water is poured into this sink, the rag (or mop) is washed right away, and the dirt and debris are taken out from the bottom of the sink. Then the grate is lowered and the mop is placed on it so that it dries here.
"My wife refuses to throw away this shovel, although it has been lying around unused for over 10 years. What is it for? Maybe, after I find out, I can convince her to throw it out"
I use this all the time, it helps to grind large lumps of minced meat.
"I found a small sealed glass flask with an opaque viscous yellow liquid inside. What is it?"
This is a dye capsule from an anti-theft device attached to clothing. The capsule should break when the thief tries to remove the device, leaving marks on his hands and clothing.
"I bought a blanket, and it has a pocket with cotton pads sewn onto it. What are they for?"
My husband has the same one, on the package it was written that it was for aromatherapy. I thought it was stupid.
"Some kind of stick with a wooden handle and an end that bends slightly. Found in a junk shop"
A holder for music notes to keep the pages from flying around. It was used to secure the edge of the pages to the music stand.
"What is this plastic thing with 'arms' and 'legs'?"
This is a stand for washing glasses in the dishwasher.
"Found in an old lady's jewelry box, this thing is empty and very light inside"
This is a device to avoid tying a scarf around your neck, you need to thread both ends of it through this tube and tighten it so that it is closer to your neck.
"What is this small thin round plastic? It is stored in a case"
A nail file.
"It looks like a ring in size, but it is not a piece of jewelry. What could it be?"
It is a ring-stylus.
"Some kind of very light silver dustpan with a handle. Any idea what it's for?"
This is a device for cleaning crumbs from the table.
"It's a plastic thing with the word 'Phillips' written on it, it looks like a big folding bed, there are wheels on the top, the bottom part looks like a pen"
It's a back shaving attachment.
"It's a small wooden hat. Found on a beach in Spain about 30 years ago. What is it for?"
This is just a souvenir for tourists. These hats are not intended for any purpose, they are just stored on the shelf.
"What is this rotating thing under the cabinet next to the stove?"
This is a spice rack.
"Found this wire attachment in the fridge. Looks like it could be used to dispense something. What is its function?"
This is a ridiculous jar dispenser that is mostly useless and just takes up space.
"What is this device attached to the window?"
This is a supply valve (an opening that provides a little ventilation in the premises).
"This is a plastic thing with a filter mesh, fits in your hand, weighs a little. They sent it to me from China. What is it for?"
It looks like a filter housing for a small grinder.
