Racer died while trying to break the speed record of 756.4 km / h (2 photos + 1 video)
The 60-year-old American racer Raschke was attempting to set a record in the Speed Demon at the Bonneville Salt Flats, but lost control after driving just over 3 kilometers. 
It is known that Raschke's car lost control at a speed of 457 km/h approximately 2.5 miles into the race. The driver received medical assistance at the scene, but he died from his injuries. The Speed Demon Racing team has not yet released details of the incident, so it is unknown what caused the accident - mechanical failure, pilot error or weather conditions.
Chris Raschke worked for Duttweiler Automotive, a drag racing company that prepared Buicks, at the turn of the century. He went on to build a racing career competing in everything from three-wheelers to stock cars.
At the turn of the decade, Raschke joined the Speed Demon team and worked with racing legend George Poteet, a Memphis racer and car collector who, according to the team, had broken 400 mph (643 kph) more than 50 times. Poteet passed away in 2024 at the age of 76.
As for the current land speed record, it was set at Bonneville in 2020 by a Speed Demon streamliner with a 2,500-horsepower engine. The previous record, in 2018, also belongs to Speed Demon, then it accelerated to 722 kilometers per hour.
