Despite more than a century of history, the art of photography often presents surprises that excite the imagination. But these pictures are perhaps the strangest.

Ghost of the Brown Lady
An ancient feudal estate in England, haunted for the past 250 years by the ghost of a "brown lady" who was once allegedly captured on film. The result is the most impressive photograph of spirits available. It is unclear whose ghost the brown lady is; she is believed to be the ghost of Lady Dorothy Townshend, wife of the second and most famous Marquess of Townshend, daughter of Robert Walpole MP for Houghton, and sister of Sir Robert Walpole, first Prime Minister of England. At the age of 26, Dorothy married the hero of her childhood love, Lord Charles Townshend, who a year earlier, in 1711, survived the death of his first wife. According to legend, Dorothy was Lord Wharton's mistress, and when Townsend found out after the wedding, he locked his wife in her rooms. The circumstances of her death are unknown. Legends say different things: either she died because of a broken heart, or she hurt herself by falling down the stairs, or she was killed by smallpox.

Face on Mars
This image of the surface of Mars was taken by NASA's Viking 1 mission in 1976. The image clearly shows what appears to be a human face and other formations in the Sidonia region. A NASA news report noted that this "rock formation appears to resemble a human head." However, some have given an unusual explanation that the face is an artificial structure built by a civilization on Mars! Many scientists say that the "face" is actually a natural formation on the surface of Mars that has the outline of a face under the right lighting and viewing angle. This month, the Mars Global Surveyor satellite will be positioned to take new photos of the area with questionable formations, as well as photos of the Mars Explorer and Viking landing sites.

Faces of Belmez
One warm, sunny morning in August 1971, Señora Maria Gomez Pereira, a resident of Belmez de la Morelada, a village near Cordoba in southern Spain, woke up to find a strange portrait on the tiles of her kitchen floor. The face itself did not particularly frighten Senora Pereira. But she began to be disturbed by the numerous onlookers who came to look at the strange phenomenon. So she decided to get rid of the portrait. When attempts to clean the tiles with various means were unsuccessful, she asked her son Miguel to knock them down and lay new ones. Everything was done this way, but Pereira’s life returned to normal for a short time, new and even clearer images began to appear on the fresh cement. Among them was the face of a middle-aged man, whom the respectable residents of Belmez recognized - this man lived in the village and died many years ago. He was buried in a cemetery that no longer exists, on the site of which, according to old-timers, is now the house of Senora Pereira. The Belmez phenomenon has attracted the attention of paranormal researchers. One of the experts, German de Argumosa, examined the concrete and concluded that the substance used to paint the portraits was unlike any known paint or pigment, leaving only a supernatural explanation. In November, the images were carefully knocked off the floor and placed under glass. Then the entire floor was removed and human bones were found at a depth of several meters under the foundation, so the version about the old cemetery turned out to be correct. Moreover, old photographs were found that confirmed the assumption of local residents that the faces of those who were buried in this cemetery appeared on the floor in Pereira's house. From that moment on, no one in Belmez doubted that there was life after death.
