Every home renovation starts with supreme confidence: "I can totally do this myself, how hard could it be?" How it ends is a whole different story. Sure, sometimes things turn out great. Other times, you end up with screws bursting through your floor, doors that refuse to close, or fresh concrete turned into a duck track field. These 22 photos are an honest chronicle of domestic disasters that all began with those famous last words: "I'll just do it myself."

A flock of ducks waddled right across the wet concrete, leaving footprints all over. It's not a driveway anymore—it's an art installation.

Adding the final touch... right before realizing she just trapped herself in her own renovation.

Saved money on a plumber by replacing the toilet himself. Forgot to measure if the bathroom door would actually close.

Someone laid carpet in the laundry room and meticulously cut it right around the drain. So much for emergency drainage.

The light fixture was meant for the ceiling alcove, but the cord didn't reach the outlet—so now it dangles beside it like it was meant to be there. A perfectionist's nightmare.

Anything set on this sink slides straight into the toilet bowl. A questionable design choice, to put it mildly.

They mounted the kitchen cabinets straight into drywall without anchoring them to the studs. The entire setup came crashing down in the middle of the night.

The microwave was installed so close to the wall that this is as far as the door will open.

They cemented the mailbox directly into a "decorative" stone pillar. The result is a total eyesore.

The robot vacuum found leftover drywall dust after the remodel and turned the kitchen floor into a canvas for abstract art.

Looks like the neighbor picked the longest drill bit in the toolbox.

Poured fresh concrete in the garage. The owners have three dogs, and as you can tell, they were very eager to inspect the work.

High-tech lock? Check. Intercom? Check. The fact that the gate bars form a perfect ladder? Minor detail.

Dad botched the plaster job and created this "masterpiece." His son framed it to treat it like the modern art it truly is.

Purchase complete. How to get it home? We'll figure that out on the highway.

The husband assured his wife that all doors are standard size. Reality had other plans.

Dad forgot to mention they were tearing down the staircase today. His son had to find out the hard way.

The ceiling started shaking, and suddenly screws burst through the upstairs neighbor's floorboards. Time to congratulate them on their new light fixture installation!

Installed the toilet paper holder right above the floor vent. You can guess what happens next.

The tank is literally embedded in the wall. Turning the toilet 90 degrees would have solved it, but who thinks of that in the heat of the moment?

Behold: a single, solitary blind slat in all its glory.

The installer clearly decided faucet placement was just a minor detail.

Have you ever attempted a DIY home project that you immediately regretted?
