If you're looking to lose weight, you don't need to punish yourself with extreme diets or spend hours at the gym every single day. Simply cutting junk food out of your diet can be enough to see results. And there aren't actually that many culprits to avoid. Here they are:

1. Potato Chips.

Potatoes aren't particularly healthy to begin with—they are mostly pure starch. Chips, on the other hand, contain practically nothing natural or beneficial, packing carcinogens, artificial flavorings, flavor enhancers, and tons of oil instead. Eating chips regularly can lead to weight gain and increase cancer risks. The same goes for French fries.

2. Soda.

Did you know that drinking poster paint diluted in water with added sugar would be less harmful than sugary colored sodas? While fast food is often paired with a soft drink, that's just a clever marketing trick. Soda actually delays your body's fullness signals, making you want to grab another burger. By the way, Diet Coke isn't any better than regular Coca-Cola—it's loaded with artificial sweeteners, which can be even worse for you.

3. Fast Food.

Aside from being cheap and convenient, fast food offers zero benefits. If you need a quick, healthy bite on the go, you'd be much better off making a simple sandwich with fresh vegetables, cheese, and ham.

4. Mayonnaise.

This mainly applies to commercial, store-bought mayonnaise. Cut it out of your diet, and you'll notice your waistline shrink in no time. The same goes for ketchup and other processed sauces packed with flavor enhancers, artificial aromas, unhealthy fats, and zero natural ingredients. Try swapping them for low-fat sour cream or plain yogurt—it's far tastier and much healthier.

5. Salt and Sugar.

Often referred to as the "white death," both can sabotage your health. Excess salt causes fluid retention, leading to bloating. Sugar, meanwhile, is enemy number one for anyone trying to lose weight. If cutting them out entirely feels impossible, try lowering your intake: avoid adding extra salt to your meals to appreciate natural flavors, and swap refined sugar for honey.

6. Alcohol.

The dangers of alcohol are well known. If you find yourself drinking regularly every week—or can't imagine celebrating a holiday without a drink—it might be time to re-evaluate your relationship with alcohol. Start by cutting out cheap alcoholic drinks, and consider spending time with friends who prefer sober fun.

7. Processed Meats and Sausages.

You can never really be sure what goes into sausages or when they were actually made. Curing and smoking meats are primarily done to extend shelf life. Over time, any nutritional value fades, leaving a heavily processed product disguised by heavy flavor enhancers and artificial seasonings.

8. Fried Foods

Frying food in margarine or vegetable oil generates carcinogens and destroys essential nutrients. Additionally, as moisture cooks out, the food absorbs oil, driving the calorie count through the roof. Instead of deep-frying or pan-frying, try searing food briefly for color, then finishing it in the oven or steamer.

9. Sweets and Candies

Hard candies, gummy bears, and chewy sweets are among the worst offenders. Thanks to high concentrations of artificial dyes and flavorings, they can actually be worse for you than a slice of cake. Satisfy your sweet tooth with honey, dried fruit, or dark chocolate instead.

10. White Bread.

Fresh pastries and white bread might be delicious, but they offer virtually no nutritional value since refined flour is stripped of healthy fiber. Switching to whole-grain bread is a much better choice for your body.
