A second life for your sneakers: how old sneakers are transformed into art bouquets (9 photos)

Canadian artist Vivian Huang has found a radical way to combat consumer culture by transforming utilitarian trash into aesthetic masterpieces. Instead of sending worn-out shoes to landfill, she performs a kind of "plastic surgery" on each pair: she disassembles them down to their bases and then reassembles them into whimsical floral sculptures. In her hands, soles are given a second life as powerful petals, and forgotten laces are woven into graceful stems, creating bouquets guaranteed to last. This is a rare case where the concept of "upcycling" reaches such a level of grace that it's hard to believe this elegant flower once trod its miles on asphalt.
