A variety of factors influence the "dangerousness" of a dog breed, and experts often disagree on the topic. Simply calling a dog dangerous is unfair. However, with some breeds, it's safe to say that a dog of that breed will cause more harm to its prey if it decides to attack. It is precisely on this basis that these 25 breeds were selected.

It's important to note, however, that almost all breeds are bred to obey their owners. Therefore, most incidents are attributed to improper training and unreasonable owner behavior.

1. Tosa Inu. The Tosa Inu is a massive dog. Originally bred as a fighting breed, it is considered dangerous and is banned in some countries.

2. American Bandogge. This incredibly strong dog is a cross between an American Pit Bull Terrier and a Neapolitan Mastiff. Despite its formidable appearance, it was not bred for fighting. Some, however, use dogs of this breed as fighting dogs.

3. Cane Corso. A very muscular dog. It is believed to be a descendant of ancient Roman fighting dogs used as gladiator baiting dogs.

4. Bull Terrier. This dog is renowned for its large, egg-shaped head and incredible strength. The breed is not particularly aggressive, but it has a highly developed hunting instinct, making it dangerous to smaller animals.

5. Rhodesian Ridgeback. A South African breed. Reputed to be able to chase lions away from their prey while their owner hunts. Dogs of this breed are loyal and intelligent, but are not very friendly with strangers. They require sensible, positive training and a gentle approach to avoid developing an aggressive side.

6. Dogo Argentino. A large, white, muscular dog bred in Argentina for hunting, particularly wild boar and puma. Aggression towards humans was not a goal in breeding. However, in the UK, for example, keeping dogs of this breed is prohibited.

7. Boerboel. A large mastiff bred in South Africa to guard homes and farms. Dogs of this breed are very loyal and considered good watchdogs.

8. Gul Dong, or Pakistani Bulldog. A very strong dog, bred as a fighting dog. Aggressive and difficult to control.

9. Basenji, or African Barkless Dog. A hound breed from Central Africa. Ranks second on the list of difficult breeds to train.

10. Saint Bernard. Originating from the Swiss and Italian Alps, this breed was originally a rescue dog. However, like any large breed, they need to be socialized from puppyhood with strangers and other dogs to prevent potential aggressive behavior.

11. American Bulldog. A heavy, muscular dog. Known for their friendly demeanor, they can be incredibly stubborn. They were bred as a farm guard breed.

12. Great Dane. Known for its incredible size, this breed holds the record for tallest dog at 1.1 meters. It was bred in Germany for hunting wild boar and deer.

13. Fila Brasileiro, also known as the Brazilian Mastiff. An aggressive and impulsive dog. Due to its size, temperament, and potential for aggression, the breed is banned in many countries.

14. Dogo Canario. A large herding dog. Requires good training. In some situations, dogs of this breed can be aggressive towards other dogs and suspicious of strangers.

15. Akita Inu. A large Spitz breed developed in the mountainous regions of Japan. A strong and independent dog. Loyal to its owners, but suspicious of strangers.

16. Boxer. Dogs of this breed are not naturally aggressive, but they were included on the list of the most dangerous breeds due to the number of unpleasant incidents involving them from 1982 to 2012. The breed originated in Germany and is considered very energetic and willful.

17. Wolfdog, a wolf hybrid. The result of crossing a gray wolf and a dog, which explains their unpredictable behavior.

18. Chow Chow. This breed originated in China. Despite their seemingly friendly nature, these dogs require very good training. They can be very aggressive when protecting their owners. From 1979 to 1998, 238 deaths were recorded. They require daily physical activity.

19. Doberman. This breed is renowned for its loyalty and intelligence. Considered the best guard dog, Dobermans attack only if provoked or if their owner or property is in danger. The breed was developed in Germany by Karl Friedrich Louis Doberman. They can be aggressive toward strangers and other dogs, but cases of aggression toward their owners are extremely rare. Their aggression, combined with their size and strength, makes Dobermans potentially dangerous.

20. Huskies. A northern breed developed for sledding. Due to their strong hunting instinct, they can be dangerous to smaller animals. They are known for their destructive habits when bored.

21. Alaskan Malamute. A breed related to the Siberian Husky. This dog requires daily exercise, otherwise it begins to tire, as well as show signs of aggression and disobedience. They can be difficult to train and are poor guard dogs.

22. Rottweiler. A strong breed with well-developed herding and guarding instincts. As with other dog breeds, the danger of a Rottweiler is often explained by irresponsible owners, abuse, and lack of training and socialization. The strength of a Rottweiler should not be underestimated.

23. German Shepherd. An intelligent, confident, alert, and fearless dog. The breed is used in police work. They can be overly zealous in guarding their owners and their territory. If improperly trained, German Shepherds can begin to attack people.

24. Pit Bull. The term "pit bull" can refer to the American Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Pit Bull Terrier, and American Bulldog. The breed was originally developed for bull and bear baiting, but has also been used in dog fighting. In America, it is considered the most dangerous dog.

25. Caucasian Shepherd Dog. Bred to guard flocks, the typical Caucasian Shepherd Dog is assertive, stubborn, and fearless. If poorly raised and trained, dogs of this breed can be unruly and unfriendly to strangers.
