The Return of the "Four Rings" to the Major Leagues: Audi Unveils the Insane 1,001-HP Nuvolari Hypercar (4 photos)
Audi has finally broken its prolonged silence following the retirement of the famed R8 and unveiled its latest engineering marvel. The all-new Nuvolari supercar, named after the fearless 1930s Italian racing driver Tazio Nuvolari, is officially recognized as the fastest and most extreme road car in the German brand's history. At the heart of this monster is a sophisticated plug-in hybrid system: a high-revving twin-turbocharged V8 gasoline engine works in tandem with three efficient electric motors. The powertrain's combined output of 1,001 horsepower allows the all-wheel-drive coupe to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.6 seconds, and its top speed confidently exceeds 350 km/h. The new car's body is constructed almost entirely of lightweight carbon fiber using Formula 1 technology, which helps offset the weight of the heavy hybrid battery. The German automaker is deliberately focusing on ultra-exclusivity, so the global production run of the model will be strictly limited to a symbolic series of 499 units. Only a select few will be able to become the owner of this collectible technological masterpiece, as the starting price for each car is approximately €500,000 (approximately $680,000).
