Nigerian Mahmud Sadis Buba became a viral social media star after announcing his intention to run for the National Assembly. Users were surprised by his appearance: he claimed to be 30 years old and attributed his unusual height to dwarfism. The story quickly spread online, but soon a scandal erupted around the candidate. Documents leaked online showed Buba was born in 2010, making him, in fact, only 15 years old and simply ineligible to run. After the passport was published, the young "politician" withdrew his candidacy. Social media is already calling the situation one of the most absurd political stories of the year, with users joking that the internet has once again believed a story that's too strange to be true.
