Police in the Saône-et-Loire department posted a video online showing a deer running in circles, jumping, losing its balance, and falling to the ground right next to the road.
Experts believe this condition was caused by fermented natural delicacies: buds, old fruit, and pine cones. The fermentation process turns them into natural alcohol.
Locals are already joking that it's time to introduce breathalyzers for deer. While there haven't been any accidents yet, the ungulates have jumped out in front of car hoods on a couple of occasions. Experts note that such "forest aperitifs" affect not only ungulates but also birds, insects, and other wildlife, making their behavior completely unpredictable.
