A swimming pool to simulate waves and currents

Japan's National Institute of Marine Technology houses a wave pool capable of creating any wave shape and "drawing" on the water.

Hundreds of computer-controlled wave generators and a current-generating system are installed around the perimeter. Each element operates with a preset phase and amplitude, allowing the waves to overlap.

This allows for waves to be generated from any direction and complex combinations, including patterns.
