Turkish general sent fighter jets into the sky to intimidate football players playing against his favorite club
A high-ranking football fan has already been removed from his post. Trusting someone like that with an entire airbase is truly unwise.
Turkish Air Force General Mete Kuş, commander of the Konya Air Base, was removed from his post due to his passionate love of football, which led him to an unimaginable level of tyranny. The high-ranking military officer scrambled F-16 fighter jets and Sikorsky helicopters, ordering the pilots to fly over the stadium where his favorite team, Konyaspor, was playing Fenerbahçe.
The incident reportedly occurred on April 21 during a Turkish Cup match in Konya, where the avid football fan and general has his airbase. Media reports claim that Mete Kuş used the air force to intimidate the opposing team and ensure Konyaspor's victory. Whether the general succeeded in psychologically suppressing the players' will to win is unknown, but "his" team won the match 1-0 that evening and advanced to the Turkish Cup semifinals.
It is reported that the general was not fired; after the media outcry, he was removed from command of the 3rd Air Base and transferred to Air Force Headquarters in Ankara. This was reportedly done as a punishment.
