The Girl with the Longest Hair in Japan Is Forced to Endure Ridicule (7 photos)
The Japanese are a truly strange people. What's normal for them is considered, to put it mildly, extravagant here, and vice versa. For example, the girl with the longest hair in the country, dubbed the "Japanese Rapunzel" worldwide, is forced to endure ridicule in her homeland. Yet in many countries, she would be the epitome of feminine beauty.
The owner of the longest locks in the Land of the Rising Sun, a girl named Rin Kambe, works as a model and dancer. She's proud of her hair and would never part with it, even though it's not easy. It's not just that her 1.77-meter-long locks require constant, complex maintenance—Rin is forced to endure ridicule and even read nasty things about herself online.
It should be said right away that Japanese women aren't known for their long, beautiful hair, and Rin, one might say, simply won the genetic lottery. Therefore, she has not only thousands of adoring fans, but also hundreds of spiteful, envious people who are capable of ruining anyone's mood.
You might think Rin hasn't cut her hair since birth, but that's not true. She started growing her incredible locks 15 years ago, after she left her parents' home and began living on her own. Until she was 20, the beauty had no control over her hair, as her parents were very strict and demanded maximum modesty from their daughter.
It also played a role that Rin Kambe had played on a soccer team since elementary school, and in this tough game, as is well known, luxurious locks of hair can be a serious hindrance. But everything changed as soon as she fled her home.
Rin has stopped cutting her hair and is making every effort to keep her hair healthy and shiny. Believe me, it's not easy at all, and it gets more and more difficult with each passing year.
"I wanted to stand out in this way. My locks are a weapon of self-expression. They've grown out healthy and beautiful."
The only thing that upsets Rin Kambe is that not everyone is thrilled with her natural bounty. The "Japanese Rapunzel" admitted that she's sometimes called a monster, and that's not the worst part. The secret to this attitude isn't just envy, but also the Japanese mentality.
Japan is home to rational people who are used to spending their time productively. The image of a beauty who spends all day brushing her cascading hair and endlessly taking photos of it irritates many. Much like how many people in our country are irritated by people who, for some reason, have grown long pinky nails. And, if you've noticed, in some photos, Rin looks like the girl from the horror film "The Ring."
