Bainbridge Rocks is a group of small rocky islets off the southeast coast of Santiago Island in the Galapagos Islands. One of them is a volcanic crater composed of compacted volcanic ash. The seawater that has seeped through its eroded walls has a stunning turquoise color and attracts large flocks of flamingos.
The Galapagos Islands are an archipelago of volcanic islands located close to the equator in the Pacific Ocean, approximately 1,000 km from the South American continent. They belong to Ecuador.
A population of extraordinary animals and a huge number of endemic species developed here, facilitated by the islands' extreme isolation and the surrounding marine reserve, located at the confluence of three ocean currents. This area attracted the attention of Charles Darwin in 1835 during his voyage around the world on the HMS Beagle. His observations of the flora and fauna of the Galapagos Islands led him to develop his famous theory of evolution by natural selection.
