Fisherman Boasts a Record Catch Weighing Almost 380 kg (3 photos)
A giant was caught off the eastern coast of Virginia. The catch was so impressive that it broke the previous record, set just the day before. 
Mike Rogerson was out on the High Hopes with experienced captain David Wright. During the morning bite, about ten miles (16 km) offshore, the line suddenly came alive, and then a giant bluefin tuna was hooked.
According to the captain, the moment of the bite was like an explosion. The water behind the stern shot up several meters, and the fish itself looked more like a surfacing whale. The fight with this sea giant lasted about 90 minutes and required the full concentration of the entire crew.
"And then, to our surprise, an explosion occurred in the stern of the boat. It was like an atomic bomb," the captain said. 
Previously, the state record belonged to a 720-pound tuna (about 326 kg), caught the day before on the boat of a friend of Wright's. The intrigue intensified when it was discovered that both fish were the same length, but the new record-holder was significantly larger.
After returning to port, the giant tuna was weighed on certified scales at the fishing center. Representatives of the Virginia Marine Resources Commission were present, and they quickly confirmed the results. The new state record was officially announced two days later.
The captain himself admitted that he considered the incident pure luck. He said such moments don't erase numerous failures, but they're what keep fishermen going back to sea.
