An American Airlines pilot shared a screenshot of his salary - everyone's jaws dropped (4 photos)
Pilot salaries vary depending on the airline and the number of flight hours per year. The payroll of an American Airlines Boeing 737 captain will make many rethink their careers.
According to the published screenshot, the Miami pilot earned $458,000 in a year. This impressive income is due to the high hourly rate – around $360. Surprisingly, this isn't the limit.
Captains on large aircraft, such as the Boeing 777 or Airbus A350, can earn up to $450 per hour. The average pilot flies about 900 hours per year, which equates to approximately 75 hours per month.
So their salary is enviable. But it's important to remember that working hours are strictly limited. When determining the allowable number of hours, certain factors are taken into account: rest between flights, time for pre- and post-flight duties, and length of service.
The payroll has sparked a heated reaction on social media.
"I'm completely fine with the guy flying the machine that keeps me in the air at 35,000 feet getting paid big bucks," wrote one commenter.
Another advised: "Go get your pilot's license, guys."
"When your life is in someone else's hands, you want the most experienced person at the controls. I like that pilots are well paid and that they have the training and experience necessary to ensure safe flights," added a third.
And such a profession isn't for everyone.
"I wouldn't agree to the nightmarish schedules, airports, crowds, endless hotel transfers, union strikes, flight delays, and other unpleasantries even for half a million dollars. I hate everything about commercial air travel," admitted a social media user. ![]()
