Tired of online advertising? Tired of banners all over the city? Don't relax, it's only going to get worse.
Imagine: you're walking down the street, look up, and there in the sky is an ad for a new smartphone or a declaration of love with a 3D effect. The screen hovers at a height of up to 100 meters, syncs with a swarm of drones, and the "flying display" itself is 72 square meters in area. Creepy, right? But residents of Shenzhen, China, don't even need to imagine. Giant illuminated billboards actually appear in the sky there from time to time.
Local company Filmbase has created ultra-lightweight LED screens weighing just 250 grams per square meter: thin, transparent, and so light that powerful drones can easily lift them into the sky. In the dark, these structures transform into floating screens up to 5 by 15 meters in size, visible from virtually anywhere in the city.
Now even the sky can't protect you from marketing: advertising used to be on the ground, now it's literally overhead, and the only way to hide is in a basement or by moving to a drone-free village.
But visually, it's epic—like a scene from "Blade Runner," only in real life. The company is already using the technology for festivals, weddings, and branded shows.
The future has arrived, and it's glowing like neon right in the clouds, damn it...
