Construction of an ice slide and a giant snowman for the Sun Island International Snow Sculpture Exhibition has begun in Harbin.
Enormous ice cubes from the Songhua River have already been delivered to the Ice and Snow World Park; they are being used to construct the ice slide.
Workers have also begun compacting the snow to create 260 large-scale sculptures. The exhibition's main character, the 23.8-meter-tall "Mr. Snowman," will require approximately 5,000 cubic meters of snow.
Craftsmen are quarrying enormous transparent blocks from which various structures will soon emerge.
