A 60-year-old Aston Martin DB5 has increased in price more than a thousandfold after restoration (10 photos)
Aston Martin has shared the story of a DB5 coupe, which has been owned by the same owner for over 50 years. John Williams purchased the car in 1973 for just £900, and now, after a comprehensive restoration at Aston Martin Works, it is valued at £1 million. However, the company noted that it would be impolite to discuss the car's value at such an exciting time. 
John Williams purchased the DB5, which he called his dream car, at the age of 18. To do this, he had to save up for a year, working overtime, and then make a long journey from North Wales to London, where the 1965 model was located. He only drove the DB5 actively for four years, as in 1977 he received a job offer in the Middle East, and upon his return, he gave up on the car.
According to him, the coupe had been sitting near his house, deteriorating for many years, and the idea of restoring it had repeatedly crossed John's mind. But he only moved from words to action in 2022, when, having saved up again, he handed the DB5 over to the specialists at Aston Martin's Newport facility—the same plant where the car was originally assembled.
Works President Paul Spiers stated that the car's restoration took a long time because it was in a very deteriorated condition. It's worth noting that this is a fairly rare model: only 37 DB5s were produced with this combination of body style and color, optional Vantage engine, and right-hand drive.
