Right at the gates of Santiago I, one of the most overcrowded and brutal prisons in Latin America, police set up an ambush and intercepted a massive shipment: drugs, liters of alcohol, and a bunch of phones.
The prison is notorious for its horrific overcrowding, harsh conditions, gangs that rule it, and strict contraband checks. It houses both pretrial detainees and serious criminals, from drug dealers and armed robbers to organized crime figures.
