The Korowai live in the remote jungles of southeastern Indonesia, approximately 150 km from the Arafura Sea, maintaining a way of life that has remained virtually unchanged for centuries. Their houses are built up to 30 meters high on tree trunks, providing protection from floods, wild animals, and attacks from neighbors.
Lightweight bark walls, woven flooring, and leafy roofs transform the dwellings into sturdy fortifications, and climbing to them requires dexterity and becomes part of daily life for the Korowai.
