At the Sky-Dining restaurant in Kerala, India, a family was stuck 45 meters in the air for three hours. A technical malfunction with the crane was to blame. Mohammed Safwan, 31, his wife Touf, 25, and their two children were forced to descend using ropes.
The incident occurred on November 28 at 1:30 PM while the family was enjoying dinner on the Southern Skies Aerodynamics ride. Rescuers stretched a net under the crane's lifting platform and lowered the children, and then their parents.
By 4:30 PM, all guests and waiter Haripriya were safe.
Restaurant management was unable to contact either the police or the fire department. Southern Skies Aerodynamics stated that its staff had completed emergency response training.
The cause was a technical malfunction in the crane's hydraulic system. Police determined that the company did not have a license for the ride.
A family with a two-year-old child came to Idukki to enjoy the beauty of the famous mountain slopes.
A source in the tourism board reported that a technical inspection will be conducted soon. The district administration has announced its intention to strengthen security measures to prevent further incidents.
