A Thai man sells 55 kilograms of hardened sperm whale vomit
A Thai man discovered sperm whale vomit and kept it in his home for nine years. It is highly prized in the perfume industry. Buyers can pay tens of thousands of dollars for a kilogram of high-quality product.
55-year-old Royal Thai Navy officer Kraisom Nunpradit put a huge clot of ambergris, a rare substance often referred to as sperm whale vomit, up for sale, Newsflare reports. The substance has a slightly sweet odor.
Nunpradit claims the clot got tangled in his fishing net nine years ago. He suspected it was ambergris and showed samples to specialists from Prince of Songkla University in Hat Yai, Thailand. Analysis confirmed his suspicion.
The clot weighed 55 kilograms. This amount of ambergris could be worth millions of dollars on the black market. The man feared his discovery would attract criminals, so he told no one about it. All these years, the ambergris remained in his home.
