A Man Makes Money from Things Throwed Away (5 photos)
A Portsmouth, UK, resident has found an unusual way to save and earn money. 34-year-old Jake Stevens spends up to four hours each night rummaging through store dumpsters.
According to Jake, the total value of the salvaged items already amounts to thousands of pounds. Among the most valuable finds are a Gucci bag worth around £1,500, gold rings and bracelets, vintage Christmas tree decorations, and even a Christmas box from World War I.
"Some of the stuff they throw away is just beyond my comprehension. I found £1,500 worth of jewelry in one night," he admits. Selling his finds at the car bazaar brings him around £600 a month, which helps cover his living expenses.
To store all his "haul," Jake rents a barn-sized warehouse for £70 a month. And thanks to the huge amount of edible food he finds (bread, biscuits, flour, eggs), his grocery bill has dropped by about £50 a week.
At the same time, the man actively helps friends and charities. He has donated hundreds of kilograms of clothing to a local charity shop and even provides dog food to a friend.
Jake emphasizes that his main goal is not only profit, but also raising awareness about the problem of waste.
"We throw away an incredible amount of things. I just give them a second chance and break the vicious cycle," says the British man.
Despite the mixed reactions of store security, the man is certain: once an item is in a container, it no longer belongs to its owner. ![]()
