Arapaima: one of the largest freshwater fish in the world

Meet the arapaima—a huge freshwater fish. Arapaimas can reach lengths of 2 meters or more and weigh over 100 kg. The largest recorded specimen was 4.5 meters long and weighed around 200 kg.

The fish's most distinctive feature is its powerful oral muscles. In a split second, the arapaima creates a powerful suction impulse, literally pulling its prey inside.

It's best not to enter waters containing these fish without swimming trunks.
