A jewelry store owner inserted a 2-carat diamond into his eye (5 photos + 1 video)
23-year-old Slater Jones showed off a unique prosthetic eye with a two-carat diamond. The custom piece cost the jewelry store owner $2 million, making it the most expensive artificial eye in the world.
Prosthetist John Imm wrote on social media: "Over the past 32 years, I've made about 10,000 artificial eyes for people from 6 weeks to 101 years old. This prosthesis is the most valuable in terms of materials. The diamond is 2 carats. Why not 3, you ask? Well, it wouldn't fit."
Jones began losing the vision in his right eye at age 17 due to toxoplasmosis. After several surgeries, it became clear the eye could not be saved and needed to be removed.
To ensure a prosthetic fit for his profession as a jewelry designer, the American approached a prosthetist with an unusual idea.
He ended up with an eye with a diamond iris.
"This is definitely the most expensive prosthetic eye in the world," added Imm.
"I lost an eye, but this accessory has brought light into my life," Jones admits.
Now calling himself "Diamond Eye" and using his striking appearance as a marketing gimmick, the entrepreneur posts with captions like, "If your jeweler doesn't have a diamond eye, I don't want to see them."
One commenter wrote: "Bro, you look like a villain from a James Bond movie."
"The heaviest prosthetic I've ever seen," added another.
A third remarked: "It's all funny and fun until they steal your eye."
