An eagle, an owl, a goose, a pony, several dozen mice and hamsters, a camel, a black goat, about a dozen parrots, a cricket, and a host of dressed-up cats and dogs were blessed on this day.
As part of the celebration of St. Francis of Assisi Day, the patron saint of animals, a blessing of animals ceremony was held at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City.
Participants took turns presenting their pets, who received the same blessing from the priest as humans.
