Jeep Premium SUVs Face Finishing Issues

The Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are back in the spotlight due to serious issues with bodywork fasteners. This is the second recall in the past month, raising concerns among owners of the expensive SUVs.

Scope of the Problem

According to the company's latest decision, 123,396 Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer vehicles manufactured in 2022-2024 are under recall. The main problem is the unreliable fastening of the rear pillar trim, which can separate while driving. According to experts, the defect is present in about 9% of vehicles, which is about 11,106 cars.

The US government confirmed that “the rear pillar trim on the driver and passenger sides may be improperly fastened, allowing it to separate.”

Chronology of the defect

The manufacturer began an investigation back in May, when it became clear that the rear side window trim could fall off and create a road hazard. During the investigation, it was found:

Fortunately, the company has not reported any injuries or accidents related to this issue.

Current status of the issue

The most concerning aspect of the situation is the lack of a ready-made solution to fix the defect. The manufacturer plans to send preliminary letters to owners in mid-November, followed by a second notification when a method for fixing the problem is developed.

Previous recall

This is the second recall in a short period of time. The company previously recalled 163,735 2022-2025 Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer SUVs due to issues with door trims that could also come off. These items were supplied by Cooper-Standard, unlike the current case, where the supplier is Fuyao Automotive.

The previous issue was less extensive, with only 405 warranty claims, three field reports, and 112 other service records.

Conclusions and Outlook

There is already a solution for the door trim issue, with dealers inspecting the door trim and replacing it if necessary. Notifications of this recall are scheduled to be mailed out around Halloween. A double recall for the same models in such a short period of time raises questions about manufacturing quality control, especially given the premium status and high cost of these vehicles, which can cost over $100,000. Owners are advised to closely monitor official communications from the manufacturer and contact dealerships immediately if any signs of handling problems are detected.
