In January, eight-year-old Harrison Mizen from South Shields, Tyne and Wear, threw a bottle containing a message into the sea. On September 23rd, he unexpectedly received a postcard from Saint Lucia, a Caribbean nation.
On January 21st, the pirate-loving schoolboy sent a touching letter: "Hi! My name is Harrison and I have a younger brother, Max. We're from South Shields. I hope you'll read this. Have a nice day."
The boy also included his address.
The Mizen family, including his mother Laura, four-year-old brother Max, and 41-year-old father Paul, helped Harrison throw the bottle into the sea off Sandhaven Beach in northeast England.
Last week, the child received a reply letter from St. Lucia. It read: "I found your message while fishing with my dad... The bottle was caught in nets similar to the ones in the picture. We had a great day, thank you, I hope you had one too."
The postcard depicted the small town of Gros Islet on the northern tip of St. Lucia.
Laura sincerely thanked the anonymous sender: "Harrison is absolutely delighted. How lovely that they took the time to respond. I can't believe it all worked out this way."
According to Laura, the tide washed the bottle up on the shore several times: "We threw it again and again, but it kept coming back."
But thanks to Harrison's persistence, the message traveled 4,000 miles to the Caribbean and ultimately gave him an unforgettable surprise.
