Several days ago, Typhoon Ragasa, the most powerful tropical typhoon since the start of the year, struck Taiwan and mainland China, causing widespread destruction in some areas. Videos showed a powerful torrent of water smashing through glass doors at a hotel and restaurant in Hong Kong.
Cars were swept away, streets were flooded, and houses were destroyed. Winds reached 195 km/h (120 mph) in some places.
The disaster killed several dozen people, and hundreds more are missing.
