Adam Mark explores mysterious and abandoned places. And this hobby has turned into a real addiction. In August, the 36-year-old Welshman visited the island of Poveglia off the coast of Venice.
The place received the ominous name "Ghost Island" due to its dark history. In the 18th century, there was a quarantine station for plague patients here. According to some sources, about 160,000 people are buried on Poveglia.
Later, a psychiatric hospital opened. Over time, it was abandoned, and the island was declared a closed zone.
Adam entered Poveglia, breaking the rules. The area is closed to tourists due to the emergency condition of the buildings. He and a friend spent three hours there. They explored the complex with a clock tower.
"Many of the steps have collapsed, ivy is growing through the windows, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of the film 'Lara Croft: Tomb Raider'," says Adam.

A traveler found a "vast prison" hidden "under a thick canopy of ivy and vines." There he saw beds and showers. There was also a room with a collapsed floor.
A Welshman visited an abandoned hospital where there were three-tiered metal beds.
"I didn't expect it to be that bad. I was in Chernobyl, where you can still see buildings and other objects, but here everything is overgrown," Adam shares his impressions.

He still liked the wild and abandoned atmosphere of the "ghost island."
"I don't like to research a place I'm going to beforehand. It's like spoilers for a movie," the man shares.
However, while the man was exploring the abandoned place, something even stranger happened. It seems the researcher was able to enter the spirit world with the help of his paranormal equipment.

"We took some equipment just to check out the ghost stories. We actually recorded some stuff," he says.
Adam and his partner were startled by the sound of footsteps.
"The footage shows us standing still, but you can clearly hear footsteps. And then suddenly someone invisible runs across the room."
While reviewing the footage, he heard something terrifying.
"As we were walking down the block, there was a scream on the video. But at that moment, we didn't hear it, which seemed pretty weird to us," Adam added.

The Briton has been to many places, but so far his favourite place is Chernobyl.
“Simply because it’s a whole city,” he explains. “It’s like living in the apocalypse, the roads are overgrown and the buildings are pushing through the forest.”
