A train derailed in Germany. There are dead and injured (3 photos + 2 videos)
The tragedy occurred on Sunday evening in southwestern Germany.
Yesterday, July 27, a regional express train traveling from Sigmaringen to Ulm derailed near the city of Riedlingen in Baden-Württemberg. Shortly before the tragedy, a hurricane and heavy rain passed through the region. Due to the heavy rain, a sewer shaft overflowed, and the water caused a landslide in the area of the embankment leading to the railway tracks. Apparently, this was the key cause of the tragedy.
The footage from the accident site that appeared in the media shows fallen trees and several derailed carriages, one of which fell on its side. According to German publications, there were about 100 people on the train. Of these, at least three died, including the driver and another employee of the railway company.
Several dozen passengers were injured (according to various publications, from 40 to 50 people). Of these, about 25 are in serious condition.
Rescuers and local Red Cross employees immediately arrived at the scene, as did the Minister of the Interior of Baden-Württemberg, Thomas Strobl. Local Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.
