We are used to the fact that the soil is dark and the water bodies look blue. But nature does not follow the rules and sometimes paints the landscapes in pink, poisonous green or even neon yellow. The rainbow mountains in Peru, the geysers of Yellowstone and several other lesser-known but no less impressive places create a reality that looks like a surreal painting.

1. Devil's Bath, New Zealand



In the Wai-O-Tapu geothermal area, there is a lake that looks like a giant pool of toxic paint. Devil's Bath is a body of stagnant water that has acquired a green tint due to sulfur deposits. It smells like rotten eggs, but it's worth the sight. Swimming is prohibited: the water is so acidic that it corrodes the skin.

2. Aktau Mountains, Kazakhstan





The name "Aktau" means "white mountains," but in reality these slopes resemble a layer cake. Blue sandstone, red clay, yellow carnelian, and white quartz create a striped landscape. 400 million years ago, this was the bottom of the ocean, and now the bones of ancient crocodiles and giant rhinoceroses are found in these mountains.

Every autumn, the coast of Liaodong Bay turns into a scarlet carpet. It's all about the glasswort, a plant that turns bright red in salty soil.
