Beachgoers in Portugal witnessed a rare suburban phenomenon called a “roll cloud.” The huge cloud, resembling a giant wave, rolled in from the ocean.
People on the beach in Povoa de Varzim stopped dead in their tracks. Something huge was slowly moving from the ocean to the shore — a white wall, curled into a tube. Someone took out a phone. Someone grabbed a child. Someone just watched in silence. This is a “roll cloud,” which is formed when warm air near the land meets cold air from the sea.
These things happen once every few years and look like the beginning of the apocalypse. The cloud swept along the coast - it was seen in Vila do Conde and Figueira da Foz. They say that in Australia they hunt for such clouds.

A beautiful and frightening sight
